The first historical records of the house begin in 1648, but the house is most likely to been built in 1645.
The name Schmidsendl is due to the first use of the building as a forgery.
In the 1950s the existing building was rebuilt to the current form and size and used as a hotel.
In 1994 the 2 upper floors were renovated and since then used as 6 apartments.
In the summer of 2008 Schmidsendl was taken over by the Van Loon family from the Netherlands. The new owners, Fred and Trudy try to make your stay in Lofer as pleasant and comfortable as possible. Together with their 3 children, Wendy, Sanne and Tom make for a wonderful family atmosphere.

In 2009 Fred opened a little glass studio on the ground floor. He will produce decorative art objects made from glass using traditional methods.
